Featured Speakers

Nancy Frey, Ph.D.

Dr. Nancy Frey will share evidence-based practices and recommendations for reinvesting and rebounding in Literacy and Math. Recently Frey and her colleagues released, Rebound: Rebuilding Agency, Accelerating Learning Recovery, and Rethinking Schools: For more than 2 years now, we educators have been tested and tested again. We’ve been stretched, we’ve been pulled, we’ve been put through the wringer. But now it’s time to “rebound.” It’s time to bounce back, come back better, and benefit from the many lessons learned to reignite engagement, accelerate learning, and move forward with fresh optimism and better systems for schooling.

John Almarode, Ph.D.

Dr. John Almarode will focus on Clarity for Learning Five Essential Practices That Empower Students and Teachers. Teacher clarity is both a method and a mindset, and it has an effect size of 0.75 (Hattie, 2009). With the ever-changing landscape of education, teachers and leaders often find themselves searching for clarity in a sea of standards, curriculum resources, and competing priorities. Clarity for Learning offers a simple and doable approach to developing clarity and sharing it with students. It’s teaching that is organized and intentional. Teacher clarity just requires that you know what students need to learn, communicate learning intentions and success criteria to students, and deliver lessons in a coherent way so students will learn more. Dr. Almarode will address the rollout of the new Math Standards using Clarity to support that rollout.

Steve Pemberton

USA Today Best Seller Steve Pemberton will discuss his new book, the Lighthouse Effect. The lighthouse effect is the idea that any single one of us can be a "lighthouse" for someone else. In other words, a hero, or an inspiration. Steve's book highlights the importance of being that lighthouse for others, but also finding one for ourselves. In this stirring follow-up to his memoir, Steve Pemberton gives practical encouragement for how you can be a "human lighthouse" for others and through these inspiring stories will renew your hope for humanity. This keynote address will be a follow-up message from Steve's presentation on A Chance in the World at the 2022 GACIS Winter Conference.
